Swamp Thing 2: Swamp Thinger
River Yard
Swamp Thing 2 was a wild swarm that was enticed into a bait hive in Cedar Springs in the spring of 2020. They had a fairly good year and produced 30 pounds of extra honey.
They entered 2021 in good shape and by May were ready to burst. They filled supers with honey about as fast as they could be put on until a major mite infestation struck in late July. A quick response with aggressive treatment brought the infestation under control. Careful monitoring and some light assistance will be needed to ensure that Swamp Thing 2 has the strength it needs to get through winter.
